“Teaching English Grammar in a Communicative Context” is a practical professional development course for English language teachers, developed based on modern CELTA methodological approaches.
The course focuses on developing skills in teaching grammar in a communicative context. Participants will learn how to move away from traditional explanations of rules and isolated exercises towards teaching grammar through meaningful situations, interaction, and the practical use of English.
Particular attention is given to presenting new grammatical structures in a clear context, helping learners discover their meaning and rules of use independently, checking understanding, and organising structured speaking practice.
During the course, participants will learn to:
-
analyse grammatical structures in terms of meaning, form, and pronunciation;
-
introduce grammar through a clear and meaningful context;
-
apply the Guided Discovery approach to help learners discover rules;
-
formulate questions to check learners’ understanding of the meaning and use of grammatical structures;
-
anticipate potential learner difficulties and plan ways to address them;
-
organise controlled, semi-controlled, and free practice;
-
develop communicative tasks for using target grammar in spoken and written communication;
-
integrate grammar into the teaching of speaking, listening, reading, and writing;
-
correct errors effectively and provide constructive feedback;
-
plan grammar lessons with a clear sequence of stages and expected learning outcomes.
The course includes video lessons, methodological materials, practical examples, task analysis, lesson-planning templates, self-study exercises, and a final assessment.
The course is designed for English language teachers in schools and colleges, language-centre teachers, methodologists, trainers, and other professionals involved in English language teaching.
Upon completion of the course, participants will be able to design and deliver grammar lessons in which language structures are taught not in isolation, but as a means of meaningful communication in English.
