Large-Scale Educational Project for English Language Teachers Comes to an End in Kazakhstan

The large-scale educational project AI and Action Research: A Hands-On Guide for the Modern English Teacher has been successfully completed in Kazakhstan. The project was implemented by the Association of English Language Teachers of Akmola Region (ARELTA) with the support of the U.S. Embassy in Kazakhstan and with the participation of Astana Bilim Academy.

The project ran from June 8 to July 3, 2026, bringing together more than 300 English language teachers from different regions of Kazakhstan. Participation was free of charge. The training was delivered in a hybrid format, with a total program volume of 72 academic hours.

Artificial Intelligence and Action Research

The program focused on developing teachers’ professional competencies in two relevant areas: the use of artificial intelligence in English language teaching and Action Research as a systematic approach to examining and improving one’s own teaching practice.

Particular attention was given to the meaningful and practice-oriented use of AI as a tool that can support teachers’ professional activities, help analyze teaching practices, and contribute to the development of educational solutions.

During the training, participants explored:

  • practical AI tools for teachers;

  • the key principles and stages of Action Research;

  • developing research questions;

  • methods of data collection and analysis;

  • using research findings to improve teaching practice.

More Than 300 Teachers from Across Kazakhstan

The training was held in Astana, Aktau, Kokshetau, Shymkent, Turkistan, Pavlodar, Kostanay, Semey, Aktobe, and Petropavlovsk, bringing together a professional community of English language teachers from different regions of the country.

Astana Bilim Academy participated in the project on a pro bono basis, providing organizational and educational-methodological support, as well as facilitating the training process for participating teachers.

Participant Certification

Teachers who successfully completed the program and met the course requirements received Astana Bilim Academy certificates of completion for a 72-academic-hour professional development course.

Information on the issued certificates was registered in the National Educational Database (NOBD) through the “Ustaz” platform.

The project brought together more than 300 English language teachers around modern approaches to teaching, educational research, and the responsible use of artificial intelligence in education. Its implementation marked a significant outcome of the collaboration between ARELTA, the U.S. Embassy in Kazakhstan, and Astana Bilim Academy in advancing teachers’ professional development.
