UNESCO Launches a Free Online Course on the Ethics of Artificial Intelligence on Coursera
UNESCO, in collaboration with LG AI Research, has launched the Global MOOC on the Ethics of AI, a free online course dedicated to the ethical and responsible use of artificial intelligence. The course is available on the Coursera platform and will be particularly useful for educators, professionals working in education, and anyone who already uses AI tools in their professional practice.
What is the course about?
The programme consists of 10 modules covering key areas of AI ethics, including:
- foundations of AI ethics;
- human–AI interaction;
- safety and security;
- fairness and inclusion;
- privacy and data governance;
- transparency and accountability;
- AI and sustainable development;
- human autonomy;
- the future of work;
- global AI governance.
The course addresses not only theoretical principles but also practical issues related to the use of AI, personal data protection, algorithmic decision-making, accountability, and the role of humans in interactions with artificial intelligence.
Why is this course relevant for educators?
Artificial intelligence is increasingly being used in education to prepare learning materials, create assignments, provide feedback, analyse information, and support other professional tasks.
At the same time, these opportunities raise important questions: What data can be shared with AI services? How should AI-generated outputs be verified? Can AI be used in assessment? In which situations should the final decision always remain with a human?
