More than 300 English language teachers complete the “AI and Action Research: A Hands-On Guide for the Modern English Teacher” course

A large-scale educational project, “AI and Action Research: A Hands-On Guide for the Modern English Teacher,” implemented by the Akmola Region English Language Teachers Association (ARELTA) with the support of the U.S. Embassy in Kazakhstan and the participation of Astana Bilim Academy, has been successfully completed in Kazakhstan.

As part of the project, more than 300 English language teachers from different regions of Kazakhstan completed the training. Participation in the program was free of charge. The training was delivered in a hybrid format and comprised 72 academic hours.

The program was designed to develop teachers’ professional competencies in two key areas: the use of artificial intelligence in English language teaching and Action Research as a systematic approach to examining and improving their own teaching practice. Particular attention was given to the thoughtful and practice-oriented use of AI as a tool for supporting teachers’ professional work, analyzing classroom practice, and developing educational solutions.

During the course, participants explored practical tools for using AI in teachers’ professional practice, the foundations of Action Research, the development of research questions, methods of data collection and analysis, and ways of applying research findings to improve teaching.

Training took place in Astana, Aktau, Kokshetau, Shymkent, Turkistan, Pavlodar, Kostanay, Semey, Aktobe, and Petropavl, bringing together educators from different regions of the country. Astana Bilim Academy participated in the implementation of the project on a pro bono basis, providing support for the organization and coordination of the teachers’ training. Teachers who successfully completed the program and met the course requirements received Astana Bilim Academy professional development certificates for 72 academic hours. Information on the certificates issued was registered in Kazakhstan’s National Education Database through the Ustaz platform.

The project brought together more than 300 English language teachers around contemporary approaches to teaching, practitioner research, and the thoughtful use of artificial intelligence in education. Its implementation became a significant outcome of cooperation between the Akmola Region English Language Teachers Association (ARELTA), the U.S. Embassy in Kazakhstan, and Astana Bilim Academy in the field of professional development for English language teachers.
